In between the moments of my life, they emerge
from the cracks in the wall of my denial,
The images, the emotions,
Of loving and dying, tantalized and tortured
by the taste of forbidden fruit,
Unspoken and unnamed.
Standing bewildered in the dim moonlight,
underneath towering cedars….
Lady Night beckoned with her call,
Sprinkling magic amidst fragrances intoxicating.
The embrace, the kiss,
Of forces unknowable, divine [...]

Blue Circle

Blue circle,
The secret, silent chambers or my soul.
Beckoning for my return
to its watery bosom.
To ancient soul songs,
pulsing life,
driving me to rapture
once again.
I have waited for you, she says.
My child, my heart.
I will soothe your wearied bones,
protect your innocence
and fragile love.
Come home,
And stay a while.
Lie back,
Rest your deep old self
against my comforting [...]
Sleep

In the deepest pool of silence,
I heard your heartbeat against my breast.
In the darkest corner of the night,
your gentle caress soothed my soul.
In the heart of a rose,
I dreamed of loving you.
Intoxicated by its deep fragrance,
we created an entire universe of perfect longing.
Motionless, I stand in a [...]
Despair

When despair for the world grows in me,
I go into the secret, silent chambers
of my soul.
My blue circle,
within which watery depths prevail.
Where rivers run wild and fierce,
and soul-tears are wept
with thunderous cries.
I sit and stare into the blue waters,
and I am replenished by gossamer spirits,
Consoled and cajoled
back to life,
back to hope and courage.
My home is [...]
Alive!

In my skin or out of it,
Astral dance
of creation and destruction.
Be bold, brazen,
Alive!
Push forth frontiers, and past
ties that blind,
Safety nets and complacency seatbelts.
Jump out, plunge in
to the cosmic web.
So many strings
your mind has created –
Undo them all to free yourself.
Step out of yourself
and be bold, outraegeous, alive!
Examine everything
but not with an analytical mind alone.
Be awed, [...]
The Beat

Music alive with spirit,
Spirit thickening blood
with its vitality.
Drum beats echo heartbeats,
Pulsing life
that is youth.
Tap with me,
rap with me.
Behold my world
desperate for salvation;
The music is our vision of hope.
Is mastery of life a promise or a dream?
Do not forsake us
because you do not understand us.
Souls are rocked and soothed
within thundering sounds
of primal rhythms, ancient pulse.
Some things [...]
Dream

Holding still,
holding on
to wisps of meaning.
Threads of understanding
that deepen or deconstruct.
Which will it be?
How will I know
where the pull lies
that leads to salvation or insanity?
Faith is the leap across
the chasm of doubt and distrust.
Are you real?
Am I?
We are
A dream within a dream,
Caught in the web of imagination.
Is this a sleep unending?
Are you my blue sky
Or [...]
Wild Dance

Wild, dance.
Wild dance.
Dance wild.
Dance on,
The path unfolds,
Leading to byways that invite you to enter,
Stay awhile,
Live a lesson, and rest a little.
But do not stay too long,
For your journey has just begun.
Your tears are jewels,
Your fear is also your faith.
Be cool in mind and spirit,
For the love you seek
Lines the paths that beckon.
What is yours to [...]
Reflections on the Art of Making Photographs

When you tell people you are a photographer, or when you sport a big camera, they will tell you what and how to photograph – the view from the top of the hill, the lighted pagoda at night, the temple during festival celebrations, the cute little ducks by the pond, the flowers in springtime, and [...]
Early Morning Reverie

My busy mind keeps me up this night past my usual bedtime. Yet I am able somehow to find some comfort in the quiet and stillness of the deep night. The computer’s 1 a.m. whirring has a meditative quality, and I feel lucky not to hear sirens in the street in this neighbourhood that I presently [...]
